Equipment is 3 ton Heat pump with 10KW electric heat kit 20x25x4 filter just replaced System is completely flat of refrigerant. Left estimate to do nitrogen leak search. No signs of obvious leaks. No oil in evaporator pan. The evaporator drain is not piped in at all. Needs a trap and pump as well as receptacle and wire (can use breaker 7 old furnace circuit need to change breaker to 15A tan handle). Whoever installed system ran vinyl tubing to outside. Office to approve. I noticed that one element of electric heat was left detached so the heat kit was operating at half capacity. The elements measured correct ohms. Verified proper wire and breaker size (6 AWG and 50A). I Wired the other element back in and tested. Ok 40A. The temperature rise with full capacity 25°. At half capacity (the way I found it)temp rise was 17°. I would leave it at full capacity until the heat pump is fixed especially in these cold temperatures. Homeowner agreed to leak search. Found 1 leak at outdoor li

Taped the underside of return drop where it meets furnace and box. The tiny gap there is what Was causing the whistling sound. The popping sound was caused by the expansion and contraction that happens in ductwork box under furnace when fan ramps up and then gradually ramps down to off. I took blower access door off and added a stiffener/support to duct box under furnace to give it support. Ductwork no longer pops when fan ramps up to speed or ramps down to off. Second floor furnace was not making the popping sound. Set both furnace heating fan speeds to MED LO or target 1620 CFM in second stage heat (1280;in first stage) based on blower performance chart. There was also a MERV 13 filter. I recommend using MERV 8; but definitely no higher than MERV 11. SystemS operating well at this time.
